Somebody's In My Face: What Should I Do?
Conflict Resolution Skills
Sound Familiar?
When we ask participants in a conflict-resolution workshop group what they want to learn in their session,
many people say something like, "I want to know what to do when somebody is in my face."
Usually what they are looking for is some strategy or recipe for what to do when they're trying to help
someone or protect themselves from someone who is very angry and verbally aggressive.
In this one-day workshop, you will role-play such situations, to determine when it makes more sense to walk
away and come back later and when the best option is to stay and talk with the other person. You'll learn to
recognize the three main challenges in this situation:
- Staying calm
- Deciding what to do
- Making sure that you and the other person can get through the conversation without feeling damaged
The best way to become strong enough to help people when they are being aggressive is to combine good
practice of what to say with good practice of being "centered." This workshop is an excellent way for
you to practice different approaches at getting through to a person who is resistant to your help.
